Meet Rhiannon – South Australia

An inspiring Athlete……

Rhiannon is a former rower turned Triathlete who knows how to train hard!

Here’s her story…

Tell us a bit about yourself.

I’m 33,  Adelaide, Physiotherapist, Sister, mum & dad – all live in Adelaide also.  Partner – James. I enjoy Triathlon, movies, food. 

What makes you feel alive / What fills your soul?

Walking along the beach/jetty in winter. Fresh air to the face and hair. Or cycling some amazing scenery with James.

Whats your favorite cycling style? 

Road. 

Do you currently play other sports? What’s your sporting history?

Not currently, only Triathlon. Isn’t three sports enough? 😝 Rowed for 13years including for SA and Australia.

What are your biggest sporting achievement to date?

Rowing for Australia and qualifying for World Championships 70.3 this year in South Africa.

What has been your most memorable race to date?

 First 70.3 Ballarat 2016. Memorable as first race, but having James race alongside me and Mum came over to watch. 

What has been the biggest challenge you have faced with your sporting life and how did you overcome it? 

Life balance. I don’t do things in halves, so it’s hard not to let sporting commitments interfere with day to day life, relationships and socialising. I’m fortunate to have a very understanding partner, family, boss and friends. I try to be as organised as possible and get me training done early to clear time for the rest of life. 

What type of bike do you ride? How many do you have?

I am lucky to be supported by Giant and Liv so there is a few Giant road bikes and a Liv TT bike.

Do you like to match your kit to your bike? What’s your fav?

Absolutely! Matchy matchy is a must. Anything colour coordinated 😉

Your dream place in terms of location of race you would like to do to fill your soul?

Somewhere in Europe with lush rolling hills and bright blue lakes.

What are you currently training for?

Triathlon World Championships 70.3 in South Africa in September

Whats your favorite meal to fuel your training?

Whatever my chef at home prepares for me 😉 Easy going as long as there’s lots of it and it’s flavoursome. 

What your favorite indulgence food?

Everything in moderation right! I have a sweet tooth. I wouldn’t say no to a bakery treat of some description.

Do you have a favorite café/restaurant ? 

Enjoy Thai food, preferably a chicken dish with noodles, vegetables and nothing too spicy.

What’s your favorite holiday destination?

Greece, Spain

What advice would you give someone to live a soul full life?

‘If your dreams don’t scare you, they aren’t big enough’. We get comfortable with what we know we can achieve. Aim higher. If you want it, you’ve got to work for it. 

Who inspires you? 

No one particular person, but I admire anyone who works hard for what they want.
