Tell us a bit about yourself.

I am 67 years old and live at Grange, an Adelaide beach side suburb. I have also lived and worked in Melbourne, Sydney and Darwin. I worked as an embroidery designer and later as a swimming teacher with the SA Education Department and Tafe. I am now enjoying my twelfth year of retirement.

I have always enjoyed the outdoors, be it camping, boating kayaking, cycling, touring Australia and travelling overseas.

My husband has similar interests and we have two adult sons and six grandchildren.

I like to relax by getting involved in painting, glass craft and driftwood design and reading.

What makes you feel alive / What fills your soul?

Riding my mountain bike with friends on a country trail, crossing the finish line of  a triathlon and topping the list would be spending time with my beautiful grandchildren.

Do you currently play other sports?

I played netball for a number of years and basketball for 28 years from early teens.

I started triathlons in my mid thirties plus I road raced in various cycling competitions for ten years until I decided to concentrate on triathlons. 32 years of triathlons and I still love competing.

I have swum with the Westeren District Masters Swimmers Club since 1986 competing in a number of henlety to grange jetty long swims. During the summer period I enjoy playing lawn bowls socially with a group of friends.

  4. Placing 3rd in the world championships standard distance in Hamburg and Half Iron Man on the Gold Coast Australia.
What has been your most memorable race to date?

My most memorable and challenge event would have to be the Hawaiian Iron Man due to the hype of the event. However I over hydrated and suffered hyponatremia , I had to focus on getting to the finish line to avoid collapsing during the run. Being dark I feared I would not be found. I concentrated on fixutres ahead with my aim to get to the medical tent which was just after the finishing line. I spent two hours with the medical team before they would release me to the care of my husband.
